FAQ
My tour is determined by my publishing team based on statistics. If a bookstore would like a visit or to be considered for a tour, they can always reach out to the Bloom team.
As for conferences or bookish cons, I usually do not attend unless invited specifically. Unfortunately, my time is stretched thin, so I often cannot or am not aware of application timelines.
For all inquiries, please visit my contact page. There you can reach out to my agents, publisher, or to my personal team.
As much as I try to keep up with release dates in other countries, it is quite difficult. We will try to keep you updated on foreign release dates, but please be sure you are following the publisher of my books in your country on Instagram.

Writing Questions
I decided to become an author when I was thirteen after I read the Lord of the Rings. Before then, while I was a voracious reader of mysteries, LOTR was my first fantasy. It was the first time I realized I could create a world that was my own. People like to ask how to start writing but all I can really say is I sat down and put words on a page—or rather typed them on my computer. I distinctly remember not knowing what I was doing and thinking…how do I start this? The thing is, you can spend forever reading about how to write a novel or trying to outline a book to perfection, but sometimes, you don’t know what the book is about until you begin putting words on a page.
Reading about how to write IS important. But I think it should come as you are also actively writing a novel.
I have always been interested in mythology. I do not know where my initial interest came from, but in college, I was an English major and we read a lot of Greek Epics. I always found the dynamics interesting. The Gods rule with emotion, which is considered a very human flaw. The Goddesses, who are among the most powerful women in the world, are still oppressed and shown to be shallow and wrong.
Overall, I feel like myths mostly illustrate how humanity doesn’t change but I think that is also because myth is how we attempt to understand the world around us. This is also why I think retellings are important.
I think there is a difference in the time it takes to prepare to write a book and the time it takes to put words on a page. Preparing to write a book takes me a good three to four months. First, there is a process between books where you sort of shed the previous world (if you are alternating series like I do). Even then, I have usually already started hearing character voices, writing down lines and scenes, and researching various things. When I feel like I have enough scenes and information, I start to write the actual book and at that point, I have to write in chronological order. I don’t usually begin with an outline. I start writing what I know and when I hit a wall, I do my outline. I also usually make multiple outlines because sometimes things just change. Technically, I can put words on a page in a month—meaning, yes, if really pushed, I can write about 100k in a month. Do I like to? Absolutely not. Not only is it hard on your body, it’s hard on your mind.
I started by self-publishing. My first two books came out in 2014 and 2015. They pretty much failed to get any traction. I took a break to work on my writing and worked on When Stars Come Out which I published in 2018. This book also did nothing but I wasn’t going to give up on self-publishing because I had tried to go the traditional route before and it just really stole my joy. Writing was an escape for me and I wanted to keep it in that category and continue to love it, not make it something that made me feel lesser.
After I published When Stars Come Out, I felt really guided to write a mythology retelling that had been in my head since 2016. I had always loved the myth of Hades and Persephone but I had been too afraid to write romance. I figured there was nothing to lose and went for it.
A Touch of Darkness was my first romance novel.
After it was published (May 2019), it gained a small readership and I had made the most money ever off my books. I was ecstatic and motivated to continue the series.
I next wrote A Touch of Ruin (April 2020) and by the time I decided to write A Game of Fate (Sept 2020), which was a request from my readers, I was making enough money to go full-time as an author so I took the chance and left my job as a full-time librarian after five years.
At this point, I was making enough money to go full-time as an author so I took the chance and left my job as a full-time librarian after five years.
It wasn’t until after I released A Touch of Malice in May of 2021 that I knew I needed help and Bloom, a new imprint with Sourcebooks, reached out and offered an agreement that worked for me.
Contrary to what many may think, and despite my success as a self-published author, I did not have a lot of agents or publishers interested in representing me and those who did offer to chat only told me what was not possible–you can’t make more than 10k/month, you can’t get into Walmart or target, you can’t write what you want.
When Bloom reached out, they told me I could do all those things and more.
So it was a journey. I think all roads to publication are different and they all come with challenges, even the ones that look easy. I’m very grateful for the way my path unfolded–the way it’s still unfolding. I would not change anything about it.
- I would say stop comparing yourself to other authors and their journeys.
- I think you should leave competition to the publishers.
- Write down your goals, small ones and big ones, and celebrate all of them.
- Recognize that a ‘no’ doesn’t mean you won’t achieve. It just means finding another way to ‘yes.’
- Legitimately, you can be a great writer and be told no by agents and publishers alike. You have to find worth in your own writing before anything else.
I think and research a lot. I write a lot of myth-based stories, so I’m constantly looking for new Greek Mythology books or books on witchcraft and the history of magic. I take notes as I read and let that information simmer, and as I start to think and hear scenes in my head, I will write those down, too.
There comes a point when I feel I can begin the book–sometimes it’s because I have enough information and sometimes it’s because I have no choice. I usually get about 20-40k into a book before I stop and outline.
My outline is never set in stone, either. It usually changes as I continue to write, so don’t be afraid to revisit and modify.
Inevitably, the beginning of my books are always far more clean than the end because I spend so much time on the beginning and rush through the end to finish, so most of my editing work happens from middle to end.
I was a librarian and Information Services Manager for five years before I became a full-time author. I loved it and still love the library so it was very bitter-sweet to leave a job I was so passionate about but becoming a full-time author had been my dream since I was thirteen.
I decided to put my notice in once I realized I was making more than I made monthly at the library. I had done a lot of work to prepare for this beforehand and already had an alternative life insurance plan, a retirement account, and several other investment accounts. I was also working closely with a CPA so we checked in quarterly and I was aware of my tax payments. I highly recommend doing all of these things before you decide to go full-time.
Usually when I get writer’s block, it’s because I haven’t given my brain enough rest. I usually take a break and workout, take my dog for a walk, or nap. Other times, I am trying to force the story in a direction it isn’t meant to go and I have to let go of that control and just let the characters tell the story.
The second one is hard to do. It’s hard to just listen and it really does feel weird for the moment, but just sit down, take a breath, and write one word after the other. It will feel like chipping away at words, but you’ll get into the flow of it and the words will just pour out. Promise.
General HxP Questions
They were just always my favorite couple from Greek Mythology. I have never really been drawn to others the way I have to them, as many of you. I think also, given that the original myth was Hades abducting Persephone, I always hoped that they were actually really in love because that is a far more pleasant thought.
I had two main ideas, I think.
I have always wondered what the world would look like if something like The Illiad was our chosen biblical work and not the Bible and that was really the root of New Greece. Then, at the time, I was horrible at growing plants or keeping them alive, and I thought, wouldn’t it be interesting if Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, could not grow a single thing? I just followed that line of thinking and started writing A Touch of Darkness.
No, because Hades’s POV is already written into CHAOS along with a POV from Dionysus and Theseus.
Right now my plan is to write about Aphrodite and Hephaestus and Ariadne and Dionysus. As I explore Ariadne and Dionysus, I hope that Medusa’s character will talk more (in Chaos, I felt that she was very emotionally stunted, which surprised me) because I hope to write about her and Athena later.
Each POV, I feel, highlights different gods for different reasons because they all have different relationships with each other. For example, I think we will see more of Eros and Ares from Aprodite’s POV and more of Medusa from Dionysus’s POV since she will, essentially, become his protegee.
I think Aphrodite and Hephaestus are far more interesting than Aphrodite and Ares, plus, I feel like Aphrodite and Ares are really just best friends.
Right now, my intuitive answer is that it will be multi-pov and just one book. The final chapter of A Touch of Chaos is the first chapter of their book, so it is truly a continuation of the world of New Greece.
Yes. I’m not sure what that book will look like. I think some of it will cover things that happened during the HxP saga and some of it will cover the aftermath of Chaos.
No, though stay tuned for some fun short-stories!
I really enjoy side characters, sometimes more than the main characters. I loved writing many of them including obvious ones like Hermes and Hecate, but even someone like Galanthis was such a joy to write. She doesn’t even talk but she’s still a fun and vital character.
I enjoyed Persephone far more than Hades. It was initially very hard to get Hades to speak, but his mind is also a very dark place and I felt the weight of it every time I tackled another book from his POV.
LMAO. You do not have to worry about honesty from me. I say this often, though it is helpful to repeat–I do not think any of the relationships in my books are healthy. The goal, for me, is to try and show two people working through challenges in whatever way their personalities allow in the moment. Ultimately, I want them in a good place by the end of the series–that is part of character growth, but just because I write about a relationship dynamic, does not mean I think you should aspire to it at all (Adrian and Isolde, cough, cough).
I think Hades and Persephone’s relationship is codependent. I think codependency is a scale. It can be relatively…fine and also not fine and quite toxic.
I think Persephone’s tendency toward codependency comes from being under the thumb of a mother who did not show her love so she clings to the person who does (initially reluctantly because she has trust issues). I used to be very codependent in my own relationship (for transparency, I have only had one relationship with the person I eventually married). Overtime, I have learned to be more independent of him which is its own freedom.
For Hades, he never thought the Fates would grant him love–so they both are sort of under this cloud of deep and strange gratitude for one another…except that what it allows for is this tendency to not doing anything alone and to be controlling over Persephone in some really weird ways.
Toward the end of Chaos, I think we start to see them both standing more and more on their own. As I write other books within the world, I look forward to seeing them lean on each other less and less.
Box sets are typically released after the completed series has been out for a year or more. As of right now, I have no timeline or information on a box set for Hades and Persephone but it sounds like something that will not happen until 2025 or 2026.
I am sorry, but Chaos is the final book.
I know you have read this series from start to finish and feel there should be more, but when I tell you there isn’t enough for a true story–a true plot–believe me. That isn’t to say I won’t feel inspired to write short stories for you, because I definitely have a list going.
I know there are loose ends, I agree–but that is because they are for Aphrodite and Hepheastus and Ariadne and Dionysus to explore. Why? I don’t know, it’s just how my brain works. I have always, always envisioned the final chapter of Chaos as the first chapter of Aphrodite and Hepheastus’s book.
There won’t be another Hades and Persephone book after Chaos, but the world continues from the end of Chaos via the Aphrodite and Hephaestus book, Temptress of Fire and Fury. Of course, we will see Hades and Persephone and many other characters in that volume as well!
I would say Darkness, Fate, Ruin, Retribution, Malice, Gods, then Chaos. HOWEVER, you can really read however you want except I do recommend reading Gods before Chaos. You can also participate in the tandem read which was created by reader, Rachel Feinstein. You can find the guide here.
I have seen readers get the Hades’s mark bracelet tattooed on them and I have a couple images for that, but feel free to customize as you see fit–I think that if Hades’s marked you, the bracelet would be a reflection of your soul, so make sure you do something you love!
Also, one reader got Are you well? tattooed on them in the font from the book and that was beautiful.
Spoiler HxP Questions
When did Theseus eat from the garden a second time? How does the apple get into the whiskey?
Theseus did not eat from the garden. Hades retrieved an apple from Hera’s garden (which was easy because she’s dead) and he brought his own flask to fill his own glass when he met with Theseus…the implication being he did not wish to accept a drink from Theseus.
I did not feel it was important to show Hades performing these steps–to me, it was completely implied. We already saw Theseus at Hera’s garden, we heard Hera’s warning, we heard the exchange and plans between the gods. I don’t think Theseus’s death would have been as impactful if we’d seen Hades take every step. He’s said over and over that what would kill Theseus was his hubris, told him to his face and that is exactly what happens.
Did Hecate die in Chaos?
No, this is another instance where we have seen what Cronus does to Persephone in previous battles (when she witnesses Hades die and learns that it isn’t real, just his ability to manipulate reality). It was the same situation for the final battle. I only had Persephone and Hecate grace this subject in the final chapter. Persephone says I watched you die and confesses she cannot live without her. Hecate says she will never have to, which is an acknowledgement that nothing will come between them.
What happened to Persephone’s ring?
In Chapter IV, Theseus threatens:
“I will pry a stone from your lover’s ring each time you stop,” he said. “And when there are no more, I will crush them into dust and feed them to you dry.”
In Chapter VIII, Theseus blows dust into Hades’s face:
He glared up at Theseus, breathing hard between clenched teeth, and watched as he reached into the pocket of his jacket and pulled out a small envelope, pouring the contents into his palm.
“You’ve earned this,” Theseus said, blowing something into Hades’s face.
It was some kind of powder that invaded his nose, mouth, and eyes. He started to cough, and he couldn’t stop. His eyes watered, and his chest burned. He needed water—he needed to breathe—but then he tasted blood on the back of his tongue.
Will Hades ever replace Persephone’s ring?
I imagine we will see this in Aphrodite and Hepheastus’s book. I’m excited actually to hear this from Hepheastus’s POV. I want to know what he’s thinking as he’s creating the ring and I think it would be an interesting thing for Aphrodite to be part of. I want to know if she aches for a ring, too, despite already being married.
What happened to Poseidon? Was he involved in Theseus’s takeover?
Yes, to the extent that…if Theseus didn’t win, he wouldn’t be persecuted as severely, so he sort of had a ‘light touch’ when it came to his son. I think Poseidon is basically a coward (I know many of you are used to the Percy Jackson version of Poseidon, but I did not read that and given his treatment toward Medusa in myth, I could not give him any leniency in my rendition). In myth, he is actually a pretty powerful figure and considered wise, but…again. Medusa.
I do think Poseidon is more of Ari and Dionysus’s enemy in the New Greece world, so we will see more of him from their POV.
Will you write a novella showing HxP with the twins?
Possibly. I think it depends on how I feel as I write Aphrodite x Hephaestus’s books and see the continuation of Hades and Persephone’s story there.
Will we ever get a bonus scene where Hades meets Theseus at the gates of the Underworld?
Yes, it is on my list of bonus content to write.
How were HxP able to have children? Was it because of anything that happened in Chaos?
I don’t think so. I think that the Fates have some greater plan, though I do not actually know what it is yet. I think that I will probably discover it as I write other narratives in the New Greece world. I know that’s frustrating because you want an answer, but often, as I have written series, I discover the answers I have been seeking, too.
I had a line somewhere in the draft of Chaos, I don’t think it made it into the finale, but Hades acknowledged that sometimes, during war, the Fates make exceptions when someone takes a life, so while I think Persephone has some fear over retaliation over those lives, I’m not sure anything will happen there–but, I could be wrong. We shall see!
How much time has passed in the epilogue?
I don’t actually know but I think it is pretty substantial. I think that Hades and Persephone are able to help the gods restore some kind of normalcy to their world and Persephone is able to build her career outside of the Underworld before it happens.
Will you write about Thanatos x Lexa?
Yes, I have a novella planned for them.
Who is in charge of the Gods now? What does New Athens look like in the aftermath of the battle? If Helios is dead, who is in charge of the sun, etc.?
All of these questions will be answered in the Aphrodite and Hephaestus book which picks up exactly where Chaos ended.
Did you have Apollo’s fate planned from the beginning when you started writing Chaos?
Yes. Hera was actually the only character I didn’t expect would die and I was kind of sad by how quick her life ended but I do think that that is the nature of Cronos and, in general, Theseus. He never hesitates to execute and I think that was true with Hera, too. She had served their purpose.
If you look at Apollo’s life throughout the HxP series, I think you can see his death was heavily foreshadowed. The one thing I wasn’t sure with Apollo, is would he drink from the Lethe? But, I think that he’d found enough purpose in life before his death via his friendship with Persephone and his relationship with Alex, that he did not need to.
**A note on Hera being cut to pieces, someone asked if that was dangerous since organs of the Gods can be utilized to create other gods and monsters, but Hera was fed to her followers.
Adrian x Isolde Questions
Right now I am saying Jan 2026 to give myself enough time to write without stress. It is also going to be a larger book, one that introduces two new plotlines, so I want to give myself enough time to execute it properly.
I’m guessing five, but I’m not actually certain yet. I can give you an answer once I finish Kingdom of Spirit and Shadow.
How did Adrian know Isolde was Yesenia when he saw her?
He suspected but confirmed it when he tasted her blood. In the Special Edition of King of Battle and Blood, I wrote the first chapter from Adrian’s POV. You can read that here but here is an excerpt:
I bent and traced her wounds with my tongue, and if I had not been convinced of her identity before, it was confirmed as I tasted her blood. There were memories here of the first time I saw her in King Dragos’s great hall, the hall I would one day come to own. We had danced that night, bodies close, trading smiles and sly looks, and when she’d slipped from the room, I followed her and kissed her under the night sky. She had clung to me as she did now, her shuddering breaths felt like my own, and when I drew away, I thought I could see an ember in her eyes, a kernel of remembrance—to her, a moment of weakness.
Other Series Questions
As much as I love Anora and Shy, it will be a while before I can return to that world and series. I do want to finish out my plan (originally, I had imagined four books that transition Anora and Shy into college). Of course, all updates will be available on my instagram.
There will be seven books in total about the seven brothers you will meet in the book.
All of them? Probably ones you have read and ones you’ve never read. I’ve seen some already drawing the comparison to Beauty and the Beast and my suggestion is to not go into this book expecting that particular retelling. I think you’ll see parallels of course, but that was actually not even a fairytale I had in mind while writing this novella.
The more fairytales you read, the more you discover just how similar they all are.
This is a world I have created based on various retellings by the Grimm Brothers, Hans Christian Andersen, and a few Irish fairytales. It is not a retelling of any particular story, rather a “new story” with details from a variety of dark tales.
When you have finished, I suggest reading the author’s note which will give you insight into the stories I drew inspiration from and you might have a better understanding of how I think and adapt stories.
Personal
Even with the tattooed eyeliner, I like to draw you my wing. My favorite liner is Stila | Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner – Micro Tip (for wing) in Intense Black.
For full liner, Stila |Stay All Day eyeliner in Intense Black.
I do not use mascara because I have lash extensions. I have always hated every mascara I have tried–drugstore or otherwise so I have none to recommend. Find one that you love and stick with it.
I do not have favorite eyeshadow pallets, just brands I will always buy from including Anastasia Beverly Hills, Urban Decay, and ColourPop. These all have blendable and beautiful formulas.
For Brows, I use Brow Wiz Ultra-Slim by Anastasia Beverly Hills. I love it. Sometimes I’ll also use their Dipbrow Pomade but less so since I had my brows tattooed. It depends on how natural or full you want them to look.
I love this Highlighting Duo Pencil for brows.
Stay All Day Matte by Stila — this will literally stay all day! Can be drying to be sure to have a good balm on hand. My favorite is ORMEDIC sheer pink lip enhancement complex.
Matte & Satin Velvet Lipstick by Anastasia Beverly Hills — these will also stay all day but are very soothing to the lips. LOVE the satin lipsticks.
Use any lip liner of your choice. I do prefer this Rimmel one, though.
I use two foundations primarily. One is Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation by Pat McGrath.
The other is Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 25.
I like these because I don’t need heavy coverage. Both are light and they do not stick to the dry places on my face.
For bronzer, I use Matte Cream Bronzer Stick by Milk. I have used a lot of different bronzers over the years but this one is my favorite of all time and I hate everything else I have tried.
For highlighter, I go back and forth. I love the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight by Rare Beauty. I also love the Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil but just be warned this one is full on glitter.
For blush, I love these Baked Blushes by Milani.
I always drink a Venti Americano with an extra shot from Starbies. Yes, I know it already comes with four…I want five.
When I was in England and Ireland, I always asked for an extra shot and they would pause and say, ‘but it comes with four.’
Look, I drink multiples of these per day. I have a tight writing schedule. LMAO.
Adie is four as of July 2022. She is a boxer/pittie mix. Her favorite things are short walks (lol), rides in the car, cuddles with mom, sleeping, and belly rubs.
I am a Taurus…but an Ares moon.
I’m stubborn as fuck.
