UNDERWORLD ANTICS: WASHING THE DOGS
Hades appeared in the Underworld and went in search of Persephone, finding her in the courtyard with Cerberus, Typhon, and Orthrus. Cerberus hunkered in a metal tub full of water and suds. Typhon and Orthrus obediently nearby looking very…uncertain. He exchanged a look with his dogs, raising his brows, amused by their predicament.
“Persephone, what are you doing?” Hades asked.
She glanced at him from her place on the ground. She knelt, hands covered in bubbles as she kneaded the shampoo into Cerberus’s fur, paying careful attention to his ears, something the Doberman appeared to be enjoying.
Hades groaned inwardly. He could use a massage.
“Giving the dogs a bath,” she said, still working behind Cerberus’s ear, finding a spot that caused his leg to shake involuntarily. Water splashed on Persephone and she laughed, cooing to him. “Do you like that? You are such a good boy!”
Hades was certain his dogs had never had a bath they had not given themselves, which meant they swam or rolled through any puddle they could find, knowing the rivers were off-limits.
“What made you decide to give them a bath?” he asked, curious.
“They don’t smell like roses, Hades,” she said, pausing to look up at him, her eyes like fire, fringed with those beautiful lashes. Her cheeks were flushed from her work, and pieces of her hair were wet and plastered to her face. She wore a pair of black shorts and a white shirt which was translucent in the places where it was wet. Hades eyes were drawn there—to her stomach and left breast before returning to her gaze.
He raised a brow. “Should they?”
“Well, I’d really rather they not smell like the Styx, especially if they are coming into the palace.”
She stood and picked up a bucket of water.
“Are they…coming into the palace?”
“Of course,” she said, pouring the water on Cerberus’s head, only, most of it ended up on her and instead of being only partially wet, she was now completely wet. Cerberus chose that moment to shake out his coat, slinging water everywhere, dampening Hades’ clothes and skin.
Annoyance curled through him, but then Persephone laughed, and his frustration broke apart. Like the sun coming through storm clouds, she calmed him.
As Cerberus began to move, Persephone stopped him.
‘Not so fast, mister,” she said, reaching for a towel. She patted him dry and retrieved something colorful from the ground near her feet. As she snaked it around his neck, Hades realized it was a bowtie.
“There!” she said. “All finished.”
Hades did not miss the glance Cerberus gave him as he trotted away. It said what he often said—I’m doing this because I love her.
She looked at Typhon and Orthrus. “Next?”
The two dogs looked at each other, finally Typhon relented and trotted toward her, taking his place in the metal tub.
“Persephone…when did you decide that the dogs needed to be inside the palace?”
“Today,” she said. “I was thinking how nice it would be if they could come inside for cuddles.”
At the mention of cuddling, the two remaining Dobermans began panting, excited by the idea. Hades glowered at them and they quickly schooled their features into an emotionless mask.
“Let me get this straight,” he said. “You’re washing the dogs so they can come into the palace because you want to cuddle?”
“Yes,” she said as she walked to the fountain to fill her bucket with water.
“What about me?”
“What about you?” She bent over, and his view filled with her perfectly round ass.
“You can cuddle with me anytime,” he said.
“I know.”
“So, why do you need the dogs?”
She straightened, bucket in hand, resting it on the edge of the fountain as she looked at him.
“Because…they’re dogs.”
Hades blinked at her, but she did not seem to notice his confusion.
“Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me?”
“Why would I help?” he challenged, crossing his arms over his chest. “You wish to replace me. Need I remind you Cerberus, Typhon, and Orthrus belong to me, as does the palace.”
“And I decide whether or not you get laid,” she said. “So if we are comparing power, then I think I win.”
Hades grumbled. He was not about to challenge her on that point—if he did, he’d have blue balls for a month. He knew Persephone. She would not just abstain from sex, she would tease him mercilessly to the point where his cock was hard and thick and then leave. A truly devious woman who knew her power.
“Fine,” he gritted between his teeth. He crossed the distance between them and took the bucket. He was wearing a suit—the wrong clothes for this kind of chore. As he returned to Persephone’s washing station, he sat the bucket down and removed his jacket.
“What are you doing?” she asked, as he began to unbutton his shirt.
“I’m hardly dressed for this,” he said, unfastening the last button and sliding out of his shirt.
Persephone’s gaze fell to his chest and his stomach.
He smirked. “Would you like to retire, my queen?”
She cleared her throat and turned her head away. “Not yet. We have worked to do.”
At least she didn’t say no, he thought.
Persephone instructed Hades to pour the water over Typhon and then refill the bucket. Once he did as she asked, he knelt beside her and helped work the shampoo into the Doberman’s fur. The suds were practically black, something Hades commented on.
“You should have seen Cerberus,” she said. “I had to wash him five times before the suds were clear.”
That was slightly embarrassing.
“You’ve never washed them, have you?”
“No. Cerberus, Typhon, and Orthrus are guardians of the Underworld.”
“And you are God of the Underworld,” she said. “What excuse is there not to bathe?”
“Cerberus is a monster. Do you wash your monsters?”
“If I had monsters as handsome as Typhon and Orthrus, I’d wash them,” she said, and Hades could tell she was talking to the dogs and not him.
Hades sighed. He stood and poured water over Typhon. He and Persephone continued like that until the suds were no longer dirty. Before Typhon was aloud to leave, Persephone added a colorful bowtie to his neck.
“And do you have a reason for the collars?” he asked.
“They’re just cute,” she gushed, and Hades chuckled, shaking his head before heading to refill the bucket for Orthrus who seemed far more excited than the other two, and jump into the metal bin with a splash, wagging his tail, spraying water everywhere.
Persephone laughed and Orthrus licked her face, tongue lolling out of his mouth. He was definitely the sillier of the two, but also had the sweetest disposition. Hades had a theory that when Cerberus split, so did his some of his dominate personality traits—Cerberus was disciplined, Typhon was angry, and Orthrus was playful.
Once again, the suds were black like ash and they scrubbed until they were white like snow. Persephone sat back, hands covered in bubbles and blew on the fluff until it was swept into Hades’ face. Hades did the same until each of them were trying to cover the other in bubbles. Somehow, they ended up on the ground in a tangle of limbs, Persephone pressed beneath him, her wrists pinned over her head. They had been laughing up until this moment, and now they stared at each other in silence, breathing hard. Hades body was a livewire, the edges of his being were on edge and electric. He wanted to close the distance between them and feel her current cut through him—hot and magnetic and mind-melting.
He leaned in, anticipation twisting through his stomach, ready to taste her and take her in this open courtyard when Orthrus whined. He was still trapped in the metal bin, his coat full of suds. Persephone laughed and pushed against his chest.
“Poor Orthrus! We’re coming!”
Hades relented and rolled off, getting to his feet, he grabbed the bucket and filled it with water, ignoring his throbbing cock as he returned and poured clean water over the Doberman. After a good shake, Persephone and Hades patted him dry, and she added her final bowtie.
“Off you go,” she said, and Orthrus took sprinted away. After a moment, she sighed. “They’re going to go roll in the mud, aren’t they?”
“Yes,” Hades said. “They’ll be disgusting within hours. Guess you’ll have to cuddle with me.”
She laughed and pressed onto the tips of her toes to kiss him.
“I will always want you,” she said. “Thank you for helping.”
“I’ll always help,” he said, his arm wrapping around her waist. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
